CMLL (TUE) 08/17 Arena Mexico
1) Horus & Tigre Blanco vs Artillero & Súper Comando
- Tigre Blanco cashed in at the right time since ever since his mask loss he's barely made it up to tercera level.
2) Diamante, Fabián el Gitano, Metro vs Cancerbero, Raziel, Virus
- Waste of a segunda.
3) Pierrothito vs Bam Bam, Astral, Pequeño Halcón, Aereo, Último Dragoncito, Pequeño Warrior, Pequeño Universo 2000 [cibernetico, Torneo Bicentenario]
- WOOHOO! I totally forgot about Pequeno Universo (imagine that!) or my picks would have been pretty good. Let's eliminate the guys who have no chance at all:
Astral: Too new. Hasn't established himself as a mini yet so why would it matter if he got bumped up to a new division? Is still green as hell.
Pequeno Halcon: Who? Exactly. You will be like Cisne and bite the dust early.
Aereo: Even more unknown than Pequeno Halcon! He'll get in a big dive and then get dumped.
Ultimo Dragoncito: A staple of the mini's division. He ain't going anywhere. He's perfectly suited for the division and wouldn't be able to take this gimmick with him if he moved up. (Also: They forgot to list him for the match in the official press release.)
Pequeno Universo 2000: The fact I couldn't remember him but remembered Aereo, Meteoro and Pequeno Halcon says it all.
This leaves three possible winners:
Pierrothito: Just what cubsfan needs - another gimmick based off Pierroth working in the regular sized division! I see Pierrothito much like Ultimo Dragoncito. He is the key to this division. Losing him would be bad for it and moving up would be bad for him. He's where he should be.
Bam Bam: I've been ranting and raving for almost two years now that Bam Bam needs to move up to the regular sized division based on his height and looks. In fact it was exactly two years ago where I thought he would beat Pequeno Damian in a hair match and announce he was leaving the division. Two years later he's still here but I don't think for too much longer. Bam Bam winning makes the most sense.
Pequeno Warrior: He's worked in the regular sized division before so he'd have no problem fitting in. Has tons of charisma and moves that require stalling which would make him a perfect candidate to move up. Of course the gimmick would need to be changed. He's a wildcard but since Demus 3:16 won the first group it certainly makes more sense for a tecnico to take this one.
Here's how I see it shaking down...
Aereo bites it, Pequeno Universo goes down, Pequeno Halcon loses and Astral has a seat. This leaves Bam Bam/Ultimo Dragoncito vs Pequeno Warrior/Pierrothito. Bam Bam pins Pierrothito, Peq Warrior gets rid of Dragoncito and then Bam Bam beats Peq Warrior.
This is Bam Bam's tournament to lose.
4) Blue Panther, Máximo, Toscano vs Averno, Mephisto, Vangelis
- The only time Maximo isn't the laziest guy in a match is when he teams with Toscano. Do not have high hopes for this.
5) La Máscara, Máscara Dorada, Shocker vs Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr., Negro Casas
- The first of two Mascara Dorada main events this week! I could see this setting up another title match for Dragon Rojo (w/ Dorada).
CMLL (FRI) 08/20 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel de Oro & Ángel de Plata vs Loco Max & Skándalo
- Loaded card when these four are in the opener! Loco Max makes his debut w/o hair although it's quite possible he may grow it back by the time Friday rolls around. Winners = #1 contenders for Arena Coliseo Tag Titles? Yes? No?
2) Fuego, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Misterioso II, Shigeo Okumura, Yoshihashi
- Arena Coliseo tag champs! Maybe they can get into a confronation with the winning team from the previous match as they cross paths backstage! I know, never gonna happen. Another loaded match with usual semi-main eventers in the segunda slot. I laughed reading goldvillano's preview where he called Valiente a 'jobber' for being in this slot. The same goldvillano who constantly complains cards are too weak and we need megashows once in a while. He finally gets one and then says Valiente is a 'jobber' for being so low. ARE THERE ANY SANE CMLL FANS OUT THERE ANY MORE?!?!?!?!?!? Poor Yoshihashi. Don't get me wrong, I don't like him. He's boring and has no charisma. I just think he's more of a victim of circumstance. He came in right after CMLL had already done their big Mexico vs Japan angle for the year and he stuck around during Lyger's run which meant he was a nobody in the background. At the very least they should have someone take his hair before he leaves.
3) Sagrado vs Texano Jr. [lightning]
- Kinda hope this makes TV. These guys work well together and it's a fresh match. Texano Jr. should go over here.
4) Felino, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Charly Manson, Héctor Garza, Mr. Águila
- I feel like this has been going on for a month already and we've seen none of it! I want to see the parrot! Surely leading to some sort of hair or double hair match on 9/10 or 9/17.
5) Olímpico, Psicosis, Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Atlantis, Strong Man, Último Guerrero [Relevos Increíbles]
- Fascinating. I don't see Rayo being added to the cage match like many are speculating so all I expect out of this is mask ripping between the four guys already entered into the cage. Should be heated.
6) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Místico vs Jushin Lyger, Mr. Niebla, Volador Jr.
- WOO-HOO! Maybe I should want Rayo to enter the cage b/c then Dorada can get in to make an even 16! But nah. I think Dorada is just here to keep Volador occupied since the main issue is Mistico/Niebla. This is the last time they can do something with Mistico pre-Anniversary Show b/c next Saturday he's in Guatemala which means he isn't working the 8/27 Arena Mexico show or the 8/29 Arena Coliseo show.
CMLL (SUN) 08/22 Arena Coliseo
1) Bengala, Metatrón, Trueno vs Camorra, Disturbio, Semental
- Always a fan of the six man openers. This looks good.
2) Astro Boy, Metálico, Starman vs Inquisidor, Puma King, Tiger Kid
- Weak group of tecnicos to face the best undercard rudos around today (minus Inquisidor).
3) Metro, Rush, Stuka Jr. vs Euforia, Pólvora, Virus
- WHERE IS FUEGO? WE NEED AN ARENA COLISEO TAG TITLE MATCH DAMNIT!
4) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Toscano vs Jushin Liger, Sangre Azteca, Terrible
- God this looks awful.
5) Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Atlantis
- Surprised this match isn't being saved for an Arena Mexico show. I would expect Arena Coliseo to sellout easily with this headlining. How telling would it be if it didn't...
